4th Grade Construction

Another excellent Edublogs.org weblog

The Construction Zone

I am beginning to wonder why I spent so many hours being frustrated by Dreamweaver.  I used Dreamweaver to  create a classroom web site last fall.  But there is so much free online software that does the same exact thing!  Granted, I can’t make it exactly the way I would want — but it’s so darn easy!  And has so many features! I am thinking I may be better off using Edublog for my classroom web site next year.  I can have a home page for everyone, and then separate pages for parents and students.  What should be nice about using Edublog is that I will hopefully get more feedback from parents.  Last year using the web site, I had email links and even a blog link but I got very little communication back my way.

So unless I get a different idea, this will be the new classroom web site.  The name comes from the way I have my room decorated.  It is all yellow and black, with a “Kids at Work” border.  Time to get to work!

I haven’t used Dreamweaver in years. It’s too slow.

Do me a favor and delete the default post.

Great room theme… My students used to be part of construction teams that worked collaboratively to construct a project every Friday afternoon and then test their final products based on a predetermined criteria. We had so much fun! They even had to use monopoly money to purchase materials!

    Hi Craig,

I really like your CONSTRUCTION ZONE! What a cool idea. I agree with you about Dreamweaver. I paid $100 to get a website plus the domain name, plus the cost of the software. Ouch. I have since thought of canceling my site and getting my money back! What worries me is that we will probably have to remember how to use Dreamweaver for an upcoming class and I will be in trouble.

Your classroom looks nice and neat. Is it always that way, or did you take the picture during the summer?

I agree with you about the Dreamweaver thing. I got a few parents mad, because I never finished the class website on Dreamweaver. If I am also planning on using Edublog for my class website, because I think the parents will feel more comfortable with an educational site rather than googlepages.

I miss Second Life too! Even though I could only see shades of grey :-)
I agree with you on the stress of Dreamweaver when all along we could have just utilized pages like this one or google pages and for FREE!
Hope you are having a good summer, see you saturday.

    hi Craig,

I totally agree with you, Dreamweaver seems like such a pain now that I’ve seen all these other great programs and sites. I also, was thinking about using this as my class blog/site. I like that my parents can subsribe to it, that way they don’t have to ask me for the blog address every week.

Dreamweaver is still a powerful software, but I agree. It definitely takes more time and effort to create. For the simple stuff, I will continue to use all this free stuff, but for the real pretty stuff I want to create I will still revert to Dreamweaver. Nice theme for your class!

    Hey Craig,

I agree with you about Dreamweaver. I think about all the struggles I went through making my page, but alas, it really was the only way I could get my page to look the way I wanted.

I like your idea of having parents post to your blog though. Maybe it could be a parent/student activity for my class…

Love this educational look you’ve come up with. I agree with you that the Word-Press software is so easy and awesome to use.

    Hey Craig,
I love the Construction Zone theme. This site is very cool. I wish I had a bit more time to get creative and play with all of this.
Did you know that Chavez is having a 10 year reunion party today, Sat July 19 at 2:00. Anyone that has worked there before is invited.

I totally agree with you, about using Dreamweaver. It drove me crazy. I am going to rework my class site to something much easier to use and read for the kids. When I tried bogger, the kids couldn’t read each other’s post on the same page. It was too confusing for them. I like the EduBlog site much better.

You are always so creative! Your edublog is already so kid-friendly.

Can you put your name anywhere for your students and/or visitors?
